No, our free-range hens are fed a diet free from corn, soy and all GMO ingredients.
No, our chicken feed is completely free of hormones and antibiotics.
Yolk colour is influenced by both the hens' diet and the environment they are raised in. Free-range hens on a wheat-based diet lay eggs with bright orange yolks, compared to the pale yellow yolks of conventional eggs.
Our hens are hardworking ladies, but there’s only so much laying they can do! We’ve got a limited flock, which means a limited number of eggs. We try our best to keep all our stores stocked and share the eggs fairly around the community — but sometimes demand outpaces what our girls can lay. Thanks for sticking with us (and them)!
Yes, all of our hens are free-range, which means they have the freedom and daily access to roam outside.
We love that you’re thinking green! Unfortunately, due to CFIA regulations, we’re not allowed to reuse egg cartons. But don’t toss them just yet — small neighbour farms might gladly take them, or you can give them a second life with crafts, kids’ projects, or even as seed starters in the garden.
Yes, our amazing team lovingly grades and hand packs each egg just for you. Our grading station is registered with CFIA and is regularily inspected to ensure compliance with our Safe Food for Canadian's License.
As much as we'd love to welcome you, we have to say no — for biosecurity reasons, our farm isn’t open to visitors. But don’t worry, you can still get a taste of the farm! Our eggs are available at the Yankee Flats Meats farm shop. Farm shop hours and location. Come by and say hi (just not to the hens 😉)!
The delicious taste of our eggs reflects the lives of our hens who laid them. Keenan hens live a happy life with freedom to roam outdoors, are fed a nutrient-rich, corn and soy free, and are never given antibiotics or hormones.
We feed our hens a carefully formulated blend of wheat and peas which means our hens lay big, beautiful and especially delicious eggs.
Free-run hens are raised in a cage-free environment, with the freedom to roam inside a barn, but no access to the outdoors. Free-range hens, in addition to being raised in a cage-free environment, have the freedom to go outside for most of the year, foraging for natural plants, worms, and other insects.
Yes! The hens lay in the nesting boxes, then the eggs roll onto the belt, and they come out for us to collect. Every egg is inspected, washed, sorted by size and hand packed into a carton before heading out to stores and restaurants in our community.
Our corn and soy free eggs are a great option for people with food sensitivities, or those following specific diets like Paleo, Whole30, or AIP. While eggs don’t contain corn or soy themselves, some folks feel better knowing their eggs come from hens not fed those common allergens.
By skipping corn and soy (which are often GMO and heavily treated), we're able to offer eggs from hens with a more diverse, carefully balanced diet. Many people say they can taste the difference — richer flavor, vibrant yolks, and a clean, wholesome egg from happy, healthy hens.
Not really — it all comes down to the hen!
White eggs come from white-feathered hens, and brown eggs come from brown or red-feathered hens. That’s it. There’s no major nutritional difference between the two — the shell color doesn’t affect flavor, quality, or health benefits.
What does make a difference is how the hens are raised and what they eat. Diet, environment, and care will have a much bigger impact on the taste, yolk color, and nutrition than the shell color ever will.
So whether they’re white or brown, a well-raised hen lays a great egg.
